passwxrd never makes network requests with your credentials and was built from the ground up with privacy in mind. It never makes network requests with your data. Your passwords never leave your device.

No. passwxrd works entirely offline. The only optional network activity is a lightweight update check on startup — it pings a version.txt file on passwxrd.com to see if a newer release exists. Even this can be disabled. Your actual passwords are never sent anywhere.

Currently supported: Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, and Opera GX. These browsers all store passwords in a local SQLite database with DPAPI encryption, which passwxrd reads using the same Windows API that each browser itself uses. More browsers are planned for future releases.

The master password is a secondary security layer added by passwxrd itself. It's stored as an HMAC-SHA256 hash — never in plain text — and is required every time you open the app. Even if someone gains access to your PC, they still cannot open passwxrd without this password.

You can reset your master password using Windows Hello verification (fingerprint, face ID, or PIN). Once verified, you'll be prompted to create a new master password. This ensures that only the legitimate device owner can reset access — not anyone who happens to be sitting at your keyboard.

Yes! That's one of passwxrd's core features. Select any password entry, choose "Move to Browser", and pick the target. passwxrd handles the re-encryption and writes the entry directly into that browser's credential database — no manual export/import nonsense.

Some antivirus programs may flag tools that access browser credential databases — this is a known false positive for any legitimate password manager. passwxrd uses only documented Windows APIs (DPAPI, win32crypt) and never exfiltrates data. You can whitelist it in your AV settings.

Not currently. passwxrd uses Windows-specific APIs (DPAPI, Windows Hello, win32crypt) that are tied to the Windows platform. A cross-platform version is on the roadmap for future consideration, but no ETA exists yet.

On startup, passwxrd fetches a tiny version.txt file from passwxrd.com. If the version there is newer than what's installed, a friendly GUI appears offering to download and apply the update. The new version launches itself and cleans up the old file — fully automatic, no manual steps needed.
