Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using passwxrd (the "Software"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Software.
These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and passwxrd regarding your use of the Software and supersede any prior agreements.
What passwxrd Does
passwxrd is a local Windows desktop application that reads, writes, and manages browser-saved passwords stored on your own device. It interacts with credential databases maintained by browsers including Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, and Opera GX.
The Software operates exclusively on your local machine. It does not transmit your passwords,
credentials, or personal data to any external server. The only outbound network request made by the
Software is an optional version check — a request to passwxrd.com/version.txt — which
contains no personal data.
License to Use
passwxrd is provided free of charge. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Software for personal, non-commercial purposes on devices you own or control.
You may not:
- Redistribute, sell, or sublicense the Software or any portion of it
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software except where permitted by applicable law
- Remove or alter any proprietary notices, labels, or marks on the Software
- Use the Software as part of a commercial product or service without prior written permission
- Claim ownership or authorship of the Software
Your Data & Privacy
passwxrd does not collect, store, transmit, or have access to your passwords. All data processed by the Software remains on your local device at all times.
The Software may create local files (master password hash, settings, backups, export files) stored in
your Windows %LOCALAPPDATA%\passwxrd directory.
These files are under your sole control.
We do not operate analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or any form of data collection within the Software. Our full Privacy Policy is available at passwxrd.com/privacy.
No Warranty
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that the Software will be error-free, uninterrupted, secure, or that defects will be corrected. You use the Software entirely at your own risk.
Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL PASSWXRD OR ITS AUTHORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Loss of data, passwords, or credentials
- Corruption of browser databases
- Inability to access accounts or services
- Loss of business, revenue, or profits
- Any damages arising from antivirus false positives, system conflicts, or OS-level restrictions
This limitation applies regardless of the theory of liability (contract, tort, negligence, or otherwise) and even if passwxrd has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Prohibited Use
You agree not to use the Software to:
- Access, modify, or extract credentials from devices or accounts you do not own or have explicit permission to manage
- Facilitate unauthorized access to any computer system, account, or network
- Engage in any activity that violates applicable local, national, or international law
- Circumvent security measures of any third-party service or application
- Harvest or aggregate credentials for any malicious, fraudulent, or unauthorised purpose
passwxrd is designed for legitimate personal password management on devices you own. Any misuse is solely your responsibility and may violate criminal law.
Updates & Auto-Updater
passwxrd includes an optional auto-updater that checks for new versions on startup by fetching a
plain-text version number from passwxrd.com/version.txt.
No personal data is sent during this check.
If an update is available, you will be prompted before any download begins. Updates are never applied silently or without your confirmation.
We reserve the right to release updates that change functionality, add features, or discontinue features at any time. Continued use of the Software after an update constitutes acceptance of any revised Terms.
Third-Party Software
passwxrd is built with and depends upon open-source libraries including PySide6 (Qt), PyCryptodome, Pillow, pystray, and the Windows SDK bindings. These components are subject to their own respective licenses (LGPL, MIT, BSD, and others). passwxrd's use of these libraries does not transfer any rights or obligations of those licenses to you beyond what those licenses themselves require.
passwxrd is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google, Microsoft, Brave Software, Opera Software, or any other browser vendor.
Termination
Your right to use the Software terminates automatically if you violate any of these Terms. Upon termination, you must cease all use of the Software and delete all copies in your possession.
We reserve the right to discontinue the Software or any part of it at any time, without notice and without liability.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised. We will not notify users individually of changes.
Your continued use of the Software after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the new Terms. If you do not agree to the revised Terms, you should stop using the Software.
